The Englishman who settled in the Sierra de Huelva after living in eight countries: “This place is special”
He has been living in Aroche for six months, where he has started his own business and plans to stay: "From the first moment I felt at home"
Huelva/At 37, he was beginning to consider settling down. She had tried living in eight European countries and countries outside the continent, but she felt that none of them was her place. He spent about 18 years traveling the world -often alone-, living in France, Norway, Thailand, the United States and even in different parts of Spain, to which he always returned for one reason or another. In one of his last changes of location he unexpectedly ended up in the only place where he finally decided to stay. A small town in the mountains of the province of Huelva, home to a castle and “very special people,” named Aroche.
After seeing hundreds of corners of the world, he came to a conclusion. Nothing like Spain, "its lifestyle and the people in this country," says Steven Love. He was helped to find this enclave in Huelva by the platform Hellotown, which connects people who want to settle in rural municipalities to start their own business. «Partly, I decided to come here because I love being surrounded by nature and the countryside. I love Aroche, It is a town that has something very special«. The next step was to find a house for him, in the one where I can start a new life -also helped by the same platform-, become self-employed and undertake: “I am an English teacher and most of my work is online, I give private lessons.”
Although he has only been part of the team for six months, he believes that this will be a long time. What a town! It has a lot of life, the people are very friendly and it is perfect for making friends. I love the way the people are here because from the first moment I felt at home. Taking advantage of the fact that he lives in the heart of the Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche Natural Park, he takes some time every day to walk, work in the fields and have a drink in the square.
He thought, a little over half a year ago, that he would benefit from “some order”. That is why he contacted the aforementioned website, which would help him find a home, guide him through the processes and show him different options in rural municipalities. “I was not interested in the other possibilities. It was when I arrived here that I had it completely clear. I saw the town and didn't think twice. Although he is still young, he wants to end the stage of his life of searching and searching, to create from scratch his own home and some peace and quiet. And for this he has chosen Aroche: "for now I want to stay."
Regarding the country and the province, he says that "I like the Spanish way of life. It is a safe, good place and people have a different way of relating to each other," he adds. He has already had time to see a large part of Huelva, visiting many of the enclaves of the province, among which the beach and the coastal towns, the Picos de Aroche and Sierra de Aracena, stand out, of such beauty that they are "impossible to discover in their entirety." Not to mention -he says- the food from Huelva: "adobo, ruico ham and cuttlefish! It has many things that people didn't know about, it's a diamond in the rough."
